Early Years Curriculum

For each age group there are different Programs used, 2-3 Year old Pre-school & 3-4 Year old Pre-School

2-3 Year Old Pre-School

There are 3 main areas at the Start of the learning Journey  

  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development

  • Communication & Language Development

  • Physical Development 

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

Children learn to develop a positive sense of themselves, respect for others, social skills and a positive disposition to learn. Children are supported in their emotional well-being, are encouraged to express their ideas and feelings and taught to develop strategies to cope with new and challenging situations

Communication & Language Development

Children develop communication, speaking and listening skills, using language for a variety of purposes. Children are especially encouraged to listen to and respond to others. Children are also encouraged to show understanding through responding to instructions and questions.

Physical Development 

They have opportunities to improve their skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement. Children learn to move with confidence, imagination, safety and with an awareness of personal space and others. They handle both small and large equipment. They also develop an understanding of the importance of healthy living and well-being.

3-4 Year Old Pre-School

For 3-4 Year olds, there are 4 main areas introduced:

  • Literacy Development 

  • Mathematics Development

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Art & Design 

Literacy Development 

 

Children are encouraged to enjoy stories, books and rhymes. The children will follow the letters and sounds programme to develop reading and writing skills

Expressive Art & Desgin 

The children are provided with opportunities to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through the arts, music, movement, dance, imaginative and role play.

Mathematics Development

 

Children learn to count and use numbers. They develop an awareness of the relationship between numbers and amounts and begin to learn to add and take away. Opportunities are also provided for children to handle and talk about shape, quantities, time and position. We will help the children to develop mathematical ideas and learn to solve practical problems using their skills with confidence and competence.

Understanding the World

 

Children will develop the skills and knowledge to help them make sense of their world. Opportunities are provided for children to investigate their environment and find out about how things work. They will find out about their own culture and community and that of others learning to respect and value all people. Children will experience ICT and programmable toys.
